We allow Laurelwood students to access the WRDSB wireless network for classroom purposes on a variety of devices, including students’ personal devices. We must also maintain a safe environment, following the guidelines in the WRDSB Code of Digital Conduct, valuing privacy and respect for the learning of all.

Students are permitted to use cell phones/tablets/laptops in the classroom setting, provided the outlined policies are adhered to with respect and appreciation. Students may not plug into the network on any devices capable of broadcasting or sharing private access or sync personal devices to school computers. Students are fully responsible for their own devices, whether lost, stolen or damaged.

This BYOD usage policy applies to any device (school-supplied or personally owned) that:

  • makes or receives phone calls
  • leaves messages
  • sends text messages
  • surfs the internet
  • downloads and allows for the reading of and responding to email

It is not permitted to use a device’s camera to take pictures of people at Laurelwood. Please be aware that the use of a camera function in private areas: locker rooms, washrooms, at any time would be in violation of the Criminal Code and Privacy legislation and may be subject to internal and external disciplinary measures.
