French Speaking Contest

April 22, 2014

The Laurelwood P.S. French Immersion students in Grades 4-8 and Core French students in Grades 7-8  held a school-run French speech contest on Thursday, April 3, 2014. All students from Grade 4 to Grade 8 participated in this year’s event by presenting a speech in their homeroom classes. This was a great opportunity for our French speaking students to show off their language abilities. The speech topics were all impressive, and the effort displayed from each student was outstanding. After difficult deliberations on the part of Mme Fredette, M. McWebb, Mme O’Gorman and Mme Terpstra, a few students in each class were selected to participate in a public speaking contest held in the school library.

French speaking judges, which included Mme Susie Elkadri, Mme Julie Timmermans and Mme Wanda West, undertook the difficult task of selecting one winner at each level.  First place winners were Samantha H. for the French Immersion Junior level, Jenna D. for the French Immersion Intermediate level, and Vicky W. for the Core French Intermediate level.

 Congratulations to all contest participants:

Boomerang Lunch

April 1, 2014

What is a Boomerang Lunch?

A “boomerang” lunch is where all uneaten food and waste material is returned home and is not added to the school’s waste collection.  Students learn to care for the planet.

Packing a Boomerang Lunch is just one way that children can learn to REDUCE, REUSE, RECYLE, AND COMPOST
