Academics are a key focus area here at Laurelwood Public School.  Regular classwork is structured by the Ontario Curriculum  for all students from Kindergarten to Grade 8 in both the English and French Immersion programs.

🌟 Teen Ink ages 13+ (Year Round)
🌟 Ripple Writing Contest – Grades 4-8 by March 31, 2020
🌟 Go CODE Girl For Grades 7 and 8 at the University of Waterloo (Saturday Feb 23,
2019). Learn about coding, software development and computer engineering.
🌟 2019 Engineer Girl Writing Contest – For students in grades 3 – 8 (February 1, 2020).
Write a story that celebrates engineering design and problem-solving. Here are the
rules.
🌟 Stone Soup – (Ongoing). Submissions are welcome from around the world by writers and
artists aged 13 and younger.
🌟 University of Waterloo Gauss Mathematics Contest – for Grades 7 and 8, and interested
lower grades. (Registration Deadline – April 24, 2020) Fee of $4.00/student.
🌟 Canada’s Coolest School Trip – for Grades 6, 7 and 8. (Open until February 28, 2020) As
a class, students must participate in a stewardship activity and create a photo essay
about their experience. The activity must:
● Include the participation of all students in the class for a minimum of 4 hours
each (additional hours are encouraged but will not be evaluated)
● Contribute to the protection of the local environment or presentation of local
history or culture

  • Chickadee’s Design a Robot Contest – (February 28, 2020) – Students send a drawing of their amazing robot along with a list of cool facts about it for a chance to WIN a Robo Wunderkind Education kit.
